Edges and Curves

Covid-19 project grant 2021 of the Ernst Krenek Institute

In the spirit of Ernst Krenek, who was versatile and actively creative in greatly varied fields, the Ernst Krenek Institute announces a Covid-19 project grant of 2,000 Euros. Through the awarding of the grant, an artist will receive support in the current crisis situation, and the development of new artistic works will be stimulated. Eligible are artists in all fields with their main residence in Austria. The only stipulation is that the submitted project must have a connection to the life and/or work of Ernst Krenek.

Ernst Krenek often combined contrasting elements in his personality, his thinking, and his works. For this year’s grant, we proffer this contrariety as an inspiration for the development of projects. Excerpts from two very different texts show Krenek as a composer who reflects upon his craft in a strictly methodical manner, and as a creator of stage works in which he positions himself as a commentator on the social and political issues of his time. The excerpts from “Musik und Mathematik” (1937) and “Circling my Horizons” (1974) can be downloaded here

Or perhaps the “Edges and Curves” of the illustrated items from the Kreneks’ household are an inspiration?
