Covid-19 project grant awarded to Ernst Spiessberger

For his project submission, the installation “Mirror – Ernst Krenek,” the freelance artist and filmmaker Ernst Spiessberger received the Covid-19 project grant of the Ernst Krenek Institute Private Foundation.
Ernst Spiessberger lives and works in Vienna and Gmunden. After training as a carpenter and disability care worker, he studied sculpture and transmedial space at the Linz University of the Arts, and scenography at the College of Film and Television in Potsdam-Babelsberg. Since 2008 he has headed the film production Zitronenwasser SOCIAL ART MOVIE.

Planned is an installation consisting of two parts: a fired clay sculpture (a bust of Ernst Krenek) and an animated film that will be played back on a monitor positioned vis-à-vis. The film will be dubbed by a speaker, subtitled with relevant text passages from the autobiographical texts of Ernst Krenek, which should not only amuse the viewer, but also encourage them to think about philosophical-existential questions. The installation will be exhibited in the Ernst Krenek Forum.

Artists in all fields with their main residence in Austria were able to apply for the project grant. The intention was to inspire a creative and open discourse about Ernst Krenek.
