From the Archiv to the stage - Presentation of the Ernst Krenek Edition

Event

Ernst Krenek is known today mainly as the composer of the interwar opera hit "Jonny spielt auf" and for his song cycle "Reisebuch aus den österreichischen Alpen". Of Krenek's approximately 250 other compositions, many have remained unpublished for various reasons. Often preserved only as manuscripts, they remain hidden from the public in archives.

To enable these works to find their way onto the stage, the Ernst Krenek Institute will make them accessible to artistic and scholarly interests in a new edition series as open access publications. The Ernst Krenek Edition will be launched with the "String Quartet No. 4", op. 24 and the "Trio Fantasy", op. 63, both compositions that were only performed after they were written and then fell into oblivion for a long time for various reasons. During the presentation, the Minetti Quartet and Christopher Hinterhuber will perform the two newly published works, some parts will be heard for the first time since the 1920s.
